AN INTRODUCTION TO | SILVER CLAY JEWELLERY
STOODLEIGH COURT COACH HOUSE
IS HOSTING
‘Capturing Nature’
A Luxury Rural Silver Clay Jewellery Retreat
at Stoodleigh Stays
Do you enjoy taking time for yourself? have all your meals prepared for you, no need to do anything or go anywhere except to enjoy the tranquil countryside and to create some beautiful jewellery? Then this is the retreat for you!
Inspired by the idyllic Devon countryside location, learn how to create your own beautiful silver jewellery using the magical material of silver clay. Literally a clay made up of reclaimed silver particles, held together in a water-based binder – this can be worked like clay, then dried and refined, and when ready, fired to burn off the binder and leave a solid silver item.
This retreat is designed for anyone who has started to learn jewellery making on a course and has projects they’d like to work on or skills to practise but hasn’t yet got their own tools and workspace.
In this course we’ll follow a series of different projects that will allow you to explore the properties of silver clay and familiarise yourself with the key skills needed for working with it – making a collection of finished silver jewellery to take home and wear. We’ll cover all the key basics of working with silver clay, as well as adding in some fun extras including adding solid gold highlights…
During the weekend, we will cover:
• Several different ways to shape and form the clay
• Adding surface pattern and texture to the clay
• Including fireable gemstones within the clay
• Using the technique of Keum Boo to add pure gold highlights to your pieces
• Safely firing and polishing your completed jewellery
Silver clay, gold, fireable gemstones (and all your food, drink and accommodation needs are included) just turn up, relax and enjoy your break away from the hustle & bustle of daily life!
