MEET THE ARTIST
Penny Akester
Penny started making jewellery by working with beads, as a teenager, and then taking silver jewellery evening classes from a local jeweller, before moving on to art college and then a BA in Jewellery and Silversmithing in 1999 and she has continued developing her jewellery practice and adding to her skills ever since.
She started teaching jewellery making in 2009 and has enjoyed teaching at a wide variety of locations in and around London and the UK ever since.
Currently Penny offers both online courses and in person tuition from her workshop in Camden, as well as teaching at a couple of other London centres and creating tactile jewellery collections annually for sale.
“I love the process of creating – transforming materials such as precious metals, wax, stone, clay, glass and fibre into beautiful, tactile, treasures. I have always been intrigued by how things work and working out the intricacies of bringing a design together and problem solving how to build a piece of jewellery I find endlessly fascinating. “
Penny offers clear and helpful tuition and advice both in-person and online. She is patient, very knowledgeable and supports students to produce work they can be proud of. If you haven’t taken any classes with her, you’re missing out!!
